Jessica Watson Launches S.S Warner

The fun, family day was filled with plenty of excitement, attracting around 250 mums, dads, grandparents and excited children from the popular Warner Lakes estate and surrounding communities.

Young Australian of the Year Jessica Watson headlined the launch, cutting the red ribbon on the nautically-themed play facility as she stood on top of the S.S Warner Playground.

Jessica leapt into Australian history, after sailing unassisted around the world at the age of 16. Celebrating her two-year anniversary, she shared some of the highs and lows of her own great „round the world adventure with visitors to the S.S Warner and encouraged everyone to follow their dreams.

To celebrate the launch of the state-of-the-art playground, children also had the opportunity to re-create their own version of the Ella‟s Pink Lady – the vessel in which Jessica made her solo voyage. Groups of lively youngsters then „raced‟ their designs through a dryland obstacle course with Jessica judging the prizes awarded for the “Best” and “Fastest” boats.

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said Peet was pleased to welcome Jessica Watson and such a big crowd to the playground launch.

“Jessica has become a real inspiration for people of all ages and it was a pleasure to have her help launch the S.S. Warner so close to the two year anniversary of her historic journey around the world,” he said.

Jessica‟s appearance at Warner Lakes was thanks to Peet Limited‟s support of the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. Peet is a Silver Sponsor of the Olympic qualifying event which will draw more than 1,400 sailors and officials, and 850 boats from about 80 nations across the globe when the championships begin in November.

Warner Lakes is home to more than 700 families, just 25 minutes from Brisbane‟s CBD. The popular Peet community is known for its beautiful lakes and parklands, and will eventually include more than 1,600 households.
